If I'm understanding Caroline correctly, having the btc asset impedes her ability to collect pension as the value of btc goes up. And if her btc gains are on paper only (she doesn't sell and doesn't have another way to extract value like a crypto loan) she won't have any buying power. Is this what you are saying @caroline?

Years ago I was told, by someone I had a huge amount of respect for, When you have high quality, extraordinary people in your life - take care of them as if they were gold/bitcoin.
Those kinds of people are one in a million and don't pass thru our life all that often.

At my advanced age - I can, maybe, think of a dozen people who are worth 150% effort and endless love and respect.

I count myself very, very lucky.

In September 1971 I came (legally) to USA with $10 in my pocket and a university diploma (that nobody wanted to look at).
My idea of saving/investing for the future is based on assumption that:
    1. I arrange my living to spend minimum at the current time (but not much less than that)
    2. Have some savings (in IRA)(non-taxable account, until money are taken out of it)
    3. During market all-time highs, I divide what I have into 30 portions
    4. Keep 7/30 as cash, attempt to live on 1/30 for a year
    5. 23/30 was in SPY = S&P500 until Jack convinced me to go to GBTC, now 1/2 is in GBTC the other half in S&P500
    6. after my 70.5yo birthday I am forced to cash out the prescribed portion of IRA, and if it is more than I would take out "normally", that is the amount that I am screwed about.
    7. For decades I use TurboTax program to do my taxes. Initially, I was using it (after) accountant did his job and told me that I am ready to file. There were always items that TurboTax found, that required smaller or bigger corrections.

I live in one of the highest taxing states, New Jersey.
Do not want to move out anywhere.
I am allergic to a nomadic lifestyle.
I cherish family. I, my son, and daughter live on the same street stone throw away.
A number of past and present peoples in my family spend most of their life apart from their spouses.

We had an interesting encounter at the beach this morning. We started talking to some beach friends who we see often. They own a gorgeous home on the headland overlooking the ocean, and a big home in a very desirable location in Sydney - on the beach.

The gentleman has a Phd in economics from Harvard. He and his partners used to own one of the three biggest companies in Australia. He is also an accountant.

One son manages a huge hedge fund and one son in law works for a big Australian superannuation fund. He doesn't know anything about bitcoin, and thinks it is way too volatile.

It is safe to assume that they would be worth millions.

In the course of our discussion he said these things...
-Bill Gates is a wonderful man because he donates so much of his money
    - Bill Gates predicted the covid pandemic just a few months beforehand.
    - Bill Gates is a brilliant man and so we should listen to him
-this gentleman has all his money on the stock market
-I asked if this was a good idea - he said yes of course because inflation is so low.
-He is getting his vax this week - and yes of course it is a good thing.
    -There won't be any hyperinflation

We are polar opposites - I wonder how this will all play out........

I've been thinking about these dichotomies as well. Having practiced "the JK way" which is really Nature's way once, then regressing and now doing it again, there is the benefit of observing (with perspective of experience) what's different. Really, how could the vast majority of humans, who as not living in alignment with Nature's way, think any different than they do?

Welcome to my world... my son - no matter what I say - is getting the death vax - my husband is going for round 2 this week... Deagle is predicting the population of the U.S.A. by 2025 will be 65 million people... that is 270 million people who will be gone... crazy.

I do not know how to start a discussion (so it would continue)
(on the topic that I am curious about)

Starting with this (initially posted by @Jack Kruse

    Yes, yes
    we are running on water,
    solar power
are (mini minuscule) parts of the energy that we go thru every day (just continuing on restful living)
2 or 3 times more if working hard.

Each person is using at least the amount of energy created by the synthesis of 7400 liters of water daily that is 33000 kW daily

Each person is using enough energy to light up brightly medium city for 24h day and night.

WHERE THIS ENEGY is coming from?
WHO PAYS for all that living?
WHEN HE/SHE runs out of that energy

Plants are paying for all this eucaryote's life.
How many plans do we need to support
    billions of o people
billions of cows and pigs, cats and dogs
    trillions of termites

    Green Peace is generally wrong.
How does the correct way look like?
