Niacin + Infrared Sauna ?

    I know Dr. Kruse is not a big supplement fan and since listening to most of his talks, I've also cut way
    back. Only things I take now are iodoral and selenium and occasionally some magnesium (high steak and seafood diet).
    But I've been reading about the niacin / sauna detox and it sounds like people are getting great results. I'm
    especially interested in the eye improvements. Also have remnants of vitiligo that I'm convinced occurred after living in a highly flouridated water location (Barbados). Does anyone know what Dr. Kruse thinks of the Niacin detox?
    I'd be very interested to know. Thanks.

    I haven't tried the niacin hack, but I would if I had access to a sauna.

    It is nothing new (there is nothing new under the sun anyway-- pardon pun). It is the Hubbard Protocol.

    It was pioneered by L Ron Hubbard (of dubious Scientology fame) way, way back in the day to help people detox from drug intoxication. From most accounts it is efficacious in detoxing many toxicants.

    Oh dear ! I once tried reading a book by L. Ron Hubbard and thought it was convoluted nonsense. But, the detox is recommended by several people I respect. Interesting that red meat and liver contains a lot of niacin ... maybe that's why the carnivore group do so well? Most who recommend this detox also
    say that the sauna has to be infrared, but can't see why a normal sauna wouldn't work because suspect it's the heat that is the important factor ... or maybe it's the red light ... not sure. In any case, will try it and see what happens.

    The relevant book is, Clear Body, Clear Mind. Most public libraries should have a copy. The text was comprehensive enough. From what I remember it discussed chemical and drug 'trash' that remains in the body indefinitely and says this protocol will release that buildup. Also, it said that radiation from very old sunburns would surface and leave the body. I forget if it mentioned heavy metals or not.

    I did a 30-day run using, back then, a hot rocks sauna off a residential pool in October. Basically, there was first a warm up to get the circulation going, then a rather long list of supplements , including salt, and their dose quantities. The niacin was started SLOWLY and only increased the day after the 'flush' response of the last dose hike waned. As I recall, I increased the niacin dose about every 2-3 days. Yes, we went up to several thousand milligrams but in very specifically cautious increments, as the book explained. It was strongly advised to do the protocol with a buddy. As I recall we were in the sauna for 6-8 hours each day, with short breaks to jump in the pool. That type of sauna went to much higher temps than the ones today, maybe 180 degrees F. That kind of heat for that many hours was very oppressive. Two days after I finished the 30 days, I came down with a cold and didn't wish to medicate in the detoxed state I'd worked long and hard to acquire. I went through the first all natural fever and fever-breaking episode I'd ever known. (Medical professional parents always medicated us kids whenever we had a cold...) The next year I got a 4-person FIR sauna, long enough to lie down in, with ceramic emitters, for my home use. This type of (infrared) sauna was much 'cooler.' I used niacin regularly, but never again to the high dose I worked up to over 30 days doing the protocol by the book. A decent sweat for me with FIR would take about 60 minutes if I was using the sauna regularly.

    Two years ago I put NIR lamps in my FIR sauna and have mostly just used NIR (8 Sauna Space lamps in a ~4 x 6 foot 'box.') Gets up a decent sweat in 15-20 minutes. I don't have to lie down for that short a time. I haven't used niacin with the NIR lamps. Probably because, after all, I'm now over 20 years older than when I did the full protocol. Otherwise, I'm not sure of the red NIR lamp sauna along with niacin, especially as the NIR lamps really speed up the sweat response... If anyone sees info re: NIR sauna with niacin, please post it, or if someone has tried it?

    As I recall, Hubbard (for whom the human mind was his concern) was working on methods to systemically clear out body residues of big pharma psychoactive drugs (including drugs to treat schizophrenia, etc.) Back then there was not a big deal about need to detox everyday toxic chemicals, heavy metals etc. Glyphosate was not in use then.

    Scientologists, no matter the merits of their 'religion'. were virtuously in the forefront of the fight against using dangerous pharma drugs (still in use today) to treat mentally ill people.

    Thank you Sheddie and Electric Universe. Great info and I just put a hold on Hubbards book (clear body clear mind) because it's actually in the tiny Nelson library (but currently on loan). It's been 25 years since I attempted to read Hubbard's stuff, an incredibly underwhelmed back then, but maybe I'll now be open to it. Looking forward to reading the book and will probably attempt the detox. Life is fascinating !!

    Read the book and it was interesting. Not a lot of information but it does have the exact niacin flush protocol that Hubbard
    recommends. One may not need to go to the extreme that the book suggests ... afterall, who has time to sit in a sauna every day
    for several hours over a 4 week period? Doubt you need that much time ... so will attempt a modified version. My main concern is
    improving eyesight. Will let you know how it goes.
     
  8. The oldest version of Clear Body Clear Mind is a bit better... it has a yellow cover, not the blue one.

    All saunas work for this, the idea is to be sweating. Hell, you could probably take niacin, go sit in the sun if hot enough, and sweat your ass off/lipolisis.

    NIR (heat lamp sauna) works too, you just need to be in a real enclosure to increase temp. Binders, binders, binders. Did I say binders? Research them. It makes a difference if you're going to do modified protocol.

    Thanks for reminding me about binders ... yes, assume you mean things like bentonite clay or actvated charcoal ... do you know
    of others? I'd forgotten about those but agree they are probably very important in determining RESULTS.

    Saunas are great, but they are not for everyone.

    I preach the virtues of detoxification protocols, but they need to be done right. Please do your due diligence research.

    Yes, there are quite a few detox binders used by pros and consumers alike-- activated charcoal, clays, chitosan, fiber-rich supplements, chlorella, etc. The old standbys for heavy metal detoxing like DMPS and DMSA, EDTA seem to have fallen out of favor because of side effects and the remarkable effectiveness of natural binders.

    You also need good bile flow to make sure toxins processed in liver are not backed up in the system, and are carefully ushered from gall bladder out into GI tract where binders can then safely escort them out of body.

    If you are into serious detoxing you have to have binders on board or the wheels will come off your program and you will get sick, possibly very sick. No one wants to feel like they have the flu everyday, believe me.
