How does one naturally boost Glutathione levels?

    My GGT is always high on my bloodwork. The redox rx says a high GGT = low glutathione. How do I raise them naturally?

    Do you already eat a lot of foods that have lots of the amino acids that are precursors for it, like meat or eggs or dairy? If you do, maybe it's some liver function that could be improved. Milk thistle seed tea would be a good thing to try for generally improving liver function (the seeds ground to powder in a coffee grinder or not much will be extracted into the water; about a teaspoon or tablespoon a day, simmered to make a decoction (decoction means simmering for about 15 minutes in a saucepot instead of just pouring hot water over it and letting it steep like a tea bag)).

    "GLUTATHIONE SYNTHESIS

    It’s true that your body produces and recycles it’s own supply of glutathione. Unfortunately this synthesis only occurs if you have the correct pre-cursors and ingredients to do so. The process of glutathione synthesis is highly regulated by two major enzymatic steps which both disease and environmental factors can disrupt.

    A tripeptide of glutamine, cysteine and glycine, the most common limiting factor in producing glutathione is the semi-essential amino acid Cysteine. The glutamine and glycine are generally not lacking in a typical Western diet.


    SYNTHESIS OF GSH

    Two ATP requiring enzymatic steps synthesize GSH from amino acids.

    L-glutamate + L-cysteine + ATP → γ-glutamyl-L-cysteine + ADP + Pi
    Gamma-glutamylcysteine is synthesized from L-glutamate and cysteine via the enzyme gamma-glutamylcysteine synthetase. (This is the rate limiting step, again often due to lack of available cysteine.)

    γ-glutamyl-L-cysteine + L-glycine + ATP → GSH + ADP + Pi
    Glycine is added to the C-terminal of gamma-glutamylcysteine via the enzyme glutathione synthetase.


    MITOCHONDRIAL GSH IN THE LIVER

    Even though glutathione is synthesized from precursor amino acids in virtually every cell, the liver has your highest concentration because it’s hepatocyte cells have unique GSH synthesis abilities.

    The ability to convert methionine to cysteine through the transsulfuration pathway, and the regulation of GSH biosynthesis based on rate of export into plasma, bile, and mitochondria. Short answer, the liver is responsible for mitochondrial glutathione."

    Ok, cool - So how do you improve that? Can you supplement your way to health?

    If glutathione metabolism is synthesized in the liver, perhaps our question maybe -> So how's your liver functioning?
    • High levels of gamma-glutamyl transferase (GGT) shows poor liver function.
    What has Dr. @Jack Kruse recommended for improving liver function?

    We know he's talked about the liver's role in "vitamin" D3 production; but what has he said specifically on how to improve it?
    So far... crickets...​

    But my study of light-water-magnetism shows there are treatments using photobiomodulation.
    • Reference book "Handbook of Photomedicine" page 505 photobiomodulation therapy is used on primary liver cancer.
      • Light delivery using laser-pumped dye (630 nm) three treatments spots per session. A light dose of 220 J/cm^2 was deliverd at fluence rates of 300-350nW/cm for each spot.
      • The best results came from four or more sessions with a 75% rate of decrease in the alpha-fetoprotein levels.

    What is of interest for us is -> reduced glutathione (GSH), superoxide dismutase (SOD), and catalase (CAT) activities increased

    Here's a guess -
    Go to 9:30 for dosage in Joules​

    The sweet spot is usually between 10–20 joules per square centimeter (10J/cm² — 20J/cm²), although this “sweet spot” can vary depending upon the body part and the treatment.
    • More superficial tissues, such as your skin, teeth, or superficial blood vessels, need a low dosage of 3-10 Joules
    • Deeper tissues, which include your muscles, joints, organs, or bones, need between 20 and 60 Joules. Most studies actually stay around the 20-40 J dose, every few days.
    Since we maybe interested in liver function, we may want a dosage of 20-40 Joules on our liver area.
    Remember the article above: "A light dose of 220 J/cm^2 was deliverd at fluence rates of 300-350nW/cm for each spot."
    So a dose between 20-40 Joules is well below.​

    Assume attempt to reach sweet spot (10J/cm² — 20J/cm²) ---->> 15J/cm²
    Using EMR Firestorm, at the distance of 15 cm from the skin
    pointing toward the liver
    Time minutes per each session
    Number of sessions per day,
    Other descriptions, every day, every other day, similar, how long? weeks, months, years

    Would the skin be able to withstand this amount of radiation?

    As with most studies, in order to reach a therapeutic dose, we need to find the "goldilocks" parameters; then we can start a clinical trial.

    Thank you all for this info!

    I do have almost every single symptom of a glutathione deficiency, so I'm hoping that my EMR device will start to work along with being outside often.

    My liver is completely over burdened which would make sense why my GGT, AST, ALT, cholesterol, triglycerides and more won't go down even on epi paleo. I'm trying to work on increasing my glutathione naturally, and Jack's redox rx seems to be one important component as it says:
    "Meyer cocktails, HBO therapy, and infrared therapy will improve your redox potential. You will need the help of your doctor to gain access to most of these therapies. They need proper context to your specific issues. There are several additional useful biomarkers for identifying patients in whom glutathione is low. One such indicator is elevated Gamma-glutamyltransferase (GGT), the enzyme that breaks down glutathione from the blood to allow its importation into the cells. Up-regulation of GGT has been observed in cells deficient in glutathione."

    Therefore, infrared therapy for me is extremely important, I just don't know what amount of time I should be spending with my EMR firewave.

    My main issues are mast cell activation, POTS, histamine and inflammatory responses, and what those in the functional medicine world called mold toxicity and biotoxin illness. I believe the mold issues are stemming from a lifetime of a lack of sunlight as well as a glutathione deficiency.

    Due to my symptoms and sensitivity, light, water, magnetism are taking quite a while to heal it, even in my remote location. I use SUN, activated charcoal, bentonite clay, and chlorella to reduce my histamine and lower th2, and also am in the process of trying to raise th1.

    I was listening to a podcast last week on betterhealthguy blogcast with Dr. Frank Shallenberger who said that vaccines literal purpose is to stimulate the th2 immune response to create antibodies, he said "Vaccines are – the definition of a good vaccine is it stimulates Th2. It stimulates Th2. So I’m thinking the biggest single reason we have people walking around now, especially said the under 40 crowd, the under 40 crowd has been exposed to something like – it’s more than 10, it’s 10, it’s 20, it’s about 20 times more vaccinations as children than the over 40 year old group. So I am quite sure that a lot of the problems that we’re seeing in society today from the allergies, to autoimmune disease, to the Lyme disease, to all these kind of stuff, especially in these young people. And I can’t tell you how we see stuff in the under 40 group like stage four cancers that I never saw before. I never saw – that would be like weird if I’d see something – It’s like every day normal now. And I’m pretty convinced that the very heart of it is this over vaccination that we have gotten into since what, the late 70s, early 80s."

    Consider constructing a brief "quantum health history":

    Stratify your findings into: urgent, critical and needs improvement

    Quantify your health history - Where have you lived, for how long,
    • Latitude, city, state, country, zip code
    • Did you symptoms progress from location to location?
    What were the environment(s) you’ve lived in:
    • Are you sleeping (at home) or are you working (at the office) in an nnEMF toxic soup? Have you had these environment(s) tested?
    • Is there mold in your “home”, apartment, or wherever you spend most of your time?
    • Have you been “exposed” to viruses, bacteria’s, which maybe currently “dormant”?
    What are your “health practices”
    • Nutrition – what goes in your mouth
    • Exercise – when, where, what type and how much?
    • Recovery – what is the quality of your sleep, sunlight therapy?
    And a bit about family history specially your mother's and her mother, etc.​

    These typically are a very low redox set of symptoms. Hopefully, you may find something in @Anna Vargo journal.

    Have you tried a (more or less strict) carnivore(ish) diet to maybe let your immune system renormalize? Or similar to that, if you digest milk well, the "milk cure" diet (and maybe with added salt)? That'd be something to do for about 1-3 weeks, not as good to do for several months like carnivore might be.

    Molecular hydrogen therapy (moreso when inhaled) is good for improving redox and normalizing the immune system (I'm not sure how long it makes continued effects for that after the supplemented molecular hydrogen that was free to react in the blood has reacted though). Oxidation and reduction are both useful in context and so the regulation of the interactions of each is important. I can't explain it well, but look at Tyler LeBaron's Molecular Hydrogen Institute, Molecular hydrogen therapy, he says (and others; lots of research in Japan about it), selectively reduces some kinds of oxidation radicals (selective antioxidant), and hormetically gently stimulates useful oxidation, making it a (quoting Tyler) "adaptogenic redox modulator".

    Right now I'm dealing with continued mental health struggles, tricky mast cells, continued biotoxin illness.
    I did get down to Florida for a few days last week and it was the best I've felt in a long time - perfect combination of LWM.
    I am also dealing with the last few days of covid. I got the vaccine in March of 2021 when I was still working in a school.

    Goals after 6 years of illness:
    Improve motivation/dopamine boost
    Decrease anxiety/panic
    Improve my immune system with LWM
    Decrease my food sensitivity, especially my allergy to shrimp lobster crab.
    Decrease mini seizure/migraine activity

    I think increasing my glutathione by increasing my redox will help with a lot of this.

    3. migraines ---->>messed up Steroid hormone panel. Do DUTCH test, make corrections
    Eat 30 mg/day boron, it supposedly corrects a variety of hormone panels, Lugol's, selenium, variety of micronutrients
    4. biotoxins, drink water infused with chlorine dioxide, follow recommendations of ANDREAS LUDWIG KALCKER, most likely his protocol C

    Simply solid exercise and Broccoli helped my Glutathione. If I’m understanding correctly NAC is a precursor to glutathione that can be used in a pinch.
