The effect of sitting inside all day, avoiding nature and sunlight exposure, and increasing EMF in the environment:

    From the abstract:

Population intelligence quotients increased throughout the 20th century—a phenomenon known as the Flynn effect—although recent years have seen a slowdown or reversal of this trend in several countries. To distinguish between the large set of proposed explanations, we categorize hypothesized causal factors by whether they accommodate the existence of within-family Flynn effects. Using administrative register data and cognitive ability scores from military conscription data covering three decades of Norwegian birth cohorts (1962–1991), we show that the observed Flynn effect, its turning point, and subsequent decline can all be fully recovered from within-family variation. The analysis controls for all factors shared by siblings and finds no evidence for prominent causal hypotheses of the decline implicating genes and environmental factors that vary between, but not within, families.

Another part of the paper states:

this establishes that the large changes in average cohort intelligence reflect environmental factors and not changing composition of parents, which in turn rules out several prominent hypotheses for retrograde Flynn effects.
The end result has been peak intelligence for people born in the 1970s, not peak oil:

Many factors at play in cognitive deterioration of general population.

I bet always-increasing EMF exposure to babies in womb is a big factor (especially with regard to autism), as well as high exposures during childhood. Dr Martin Pall, famed scientist studying effects of EMF, believes society as a whole will suffer cognitive collapse within 5 years or so due to increasing radiation exposures and 5G.

Environmental toxins like fluoride (in water supply) play another huge role in dumbing down of population (studies have shown fluoride consumption linked to lower IQs).

Grab some popcorn and watch the movie Idiocracy for a satirical view of what this could lead to over time. Funny, but sobering.

@ElectricUniverse, good contribution! Water fluoridation started in the 1950s and hit about half of the US in the 60s. So yes, that's a great explanatory factor, assuming that more than half of the US was hit by 1970, which then should start a population-wide decline.
  4. A mild stressor may favour development of 'intelligence" by the first generation that encounters it.

A hormetic stressor might have some short term epigenetic effects, but long term I believe the effects would be highly detrimental to the organism. Same can be said for the dramatic increase in galactic cosmic ray flux we are currently exposed-- as astronauts can attest the health effects far outweigh any tweaking of DNA.

RF/MW radiation at frequencies and power we are being exposed to today is totally alien to evolved life on this planet and is proving to be a scourge on us all.

It is also an existential threat because fertility is being adversely affected.
  6. Mafalda, is the cognitive decline greater around the SAA ?
  7. tipping point for IQ on the graph seems to be around sun cycle minimum
