    Don't worry, a circuit breaker will not go bad from switching it on and off. And building codes only apply to professional tradesman.
    You will not be cited for using the breaker to kill the power. I turn off the main breaker unless I need to AC running, then I flip all the individual breakers.
    I will make my next place off grid and possibly all DC voltage but I will have to do some research before I get started.

    We started turning the breaker off last night. We did use an extension cord from one of the outlets in another room to run our fan. I'm going to get a good guass meter at some point and measure it. I'm not going to have the place were at professionally checked until we get a place of our own. Thanks for the reassurance though!

    I know, I'm working on it. I think we'll have it checked out and we'll be saving to move someday. I'm going Into the electrician field, but still need to get started on it. Currently retaking algebra to be ready for the math test for an apprenticeship. I want to know the Ins and outs of electricity in the house so I can mitigate my family and others.
