So are people who use chillers and outdoor steel tubs with water skipping the step of adding ice (or putting it on the skin) if they can get the tub down to about 50 deg F through other means?

I'm interested in the "canonical" answer (which seems to be "no need to add ice") as well as what people are actually doing.

For me the ritual of buying 30-40lb of ice and lugging it home was way more of a hassle than the ice bath itself :)
