A book, your ideas, your childhood are all places were we can get outside of time. It is where you first existed, hearing the sounds of silence in your mind without any time scale confining you. Within these hours, we retreat into a moratorium, they become the last form of private and silent human activity that isn't considered pathological, because we are outside of the moment. Standing barefoot outdoors in the cold being kissed by the sun, today maybe asking for trouble in society. But it is also a opportunity to connect strangers back to nature in an uncommon way. When older humans, who are confined by the time they now live, and they see you connected to the sun and Earth, our small "odd actions" may begin a conversation with them. You become able to connect them to a timescale they left as a child. Their face lights up, and their words reflect ideas filled with surprise, curiosity, and sheer joy. Your current barefoot sun drenched connection reminds them of a past. A past where the cool morning dew on their feet, while running in the sun, was a world they loved. We can watch their body language change, as they reminisce in deep thought of their own youth running around playing barefoot without a care in the world. It happened snow, rain or shine, dusting off visions of a long lost world flashing before them. In this moment, we have helped them divorce their current version of time from their life, in a moment. That glimmer of recaptured joy in their eyes and voice, is palpable. The conversation becomes atemporal for them. Nature is capable of reconnecting us to people and to our true umbilical cord if we allow it. Connect today. (hat tip to Joe B for the inspiration)
