Just curious what sort of die off/detox symptoms others have experienced.

I'm a little over a week into the Leptin Rx and CT. Before that, 2 years primal lowcarb, with IFing regularly.

I'm experiencing poor sleep (though that could be due to the time change), and loose stools.

Just curious what others are experiencing.

  2. Hi Evo.. I've had sinus drainage, intermittent sleep due to being a raging furnace to freezing off and on all night. I've been on the leptin rx for a month and CT for over 2 weeks... the sinuses started with the face dunking and is just now starting to improve. Digestion has been off too... hoping it will all find a new normal soon.

  3. I've been Paleo for a year, but just started CT a week ago. Neither of the symptoms you're experiencing, but nasal allergies are really bad (having to take allergy meds nearly every day) and feeling fatigued in the afternoons. Jack says the latter is from an increase in my DHEA and toxin & estrogen release. Not sure if the allergies should be attributed to the season, or if CT is exacerbating this? Since I've been on Paleo, I NEVER feel fatigued during the day. So far, my CT protocol consists of daily face dunks in ice water and every other day for 30-45 minutes in a pool below 65 degrees. I have hypothryroidism so I'm highly sensitive to cold. This is going to take a LONG time for me to adapt!

I'm 4 weeks into CT, been Paleo for 9.5 months.

I have had 2 colds (mostly sinus-issues), lots of pimples on face and chest (never ever get these normally), nausea and lots of it, excess estrogen creating chaos with my mood, sex-drive and will to live. Ita lls ettled down after about 2 weeks. My sleep has been poor on and off, but I blame that more on other issues. CT has mostly improved my sleep.

I am just starting out on the paleo diet but I hear you about the cold. I also have hypothyroidism, and I feel like I have to wear, and do wear, thermies, when it is below 60 outside. Even a blast of cold air makes me shiver!

Yikes! Heh, yeah, it's reports like this that have me a little nervous as I prepare to get more intense with the CT...

The positives far outweighs a couple of weeks of detox though. ;)

I'm 3 weeks into Paleo & LR and 2 into CT.

I've had bacne, which I think I've only had maybe once or twice before. But go figure, my face has cleared up completely. I'll take the bacne over the facial breakouts though--not like I can walk around with a paper bag over my head. Also constipation, insomnia (which went away once I started face dunking, but then I took my first cold bath 3 nights ago and the insomnia is back. Also the slight runny nose. Waiting on the improvements in my moods and libido (what libido?), but though I am still irritable with my kids, my depression is completely gone. Brain fog and focus also improved exponentially, but they are also back today.

  9. I think we all have some "die-off" to experience. I am 11 weeks into Leptin Rx and 4 weeks into CT. I experienced nausea after the first week that was horrific. Nausea stuck around for 2 weeks and then itching took has taken it's place for the last week or so. But that seems to be getting better too. Not sure if there will be more but who knows if it's getting rid of crap that shouldn't be there, I'm all for it.

  10. My husband and I did the face dunks and then started to progressively cool our showers at the same time. We are on day 4 of the baths. The first couple were around 58ish and the last couple have been about 53-55. My husband was extremely lethargic and tired for a couple of days but does seem to be feeling some better today. He was wondering if it was the Leptin RX diet. I told him I doubted it, that I suspected probably the CT. I'm a bit worried, because so far I don't feel like I've really experienced any side effects.

Hi Jodi, What does hypothyroidism make you highly sensitive to cold? I ask because I recently got cold urticaria (hives) from a CT session. The hives are almost gone now and I'm back to trying it with cold showers and a cold bath (my first today since hives) for 13 minutes today. Is this what you mean by sensitive? I am undiagnosed but suspect hypot. Getting tested soon, doc. appt is March 29. I am seeing a doc I found in paleophysician network. I've been paleo for 2 years, minus the fruit, although did have some last year when I did hcg diet. I gained all the weight I lost on hcg back very slowly, not because of eating the wrong food, but hormonal (gain weight with my TOM and it doesn't come back off). I have a very clean diet and I have been taking krill oil for years. I doubt I have a bad o6/o3 ratio as my diet consists of grass-fed meats, wild salmon, eggs, veggies, coconut oil, raw butter, and some raw cream (tiny amounts in my herbal tea).

6' 165 8-9% bf. Paleo for about 3 years. Intermittent fasting for 1 yr( leangains). Im in tub now at 55 degrees. Cold showers every am (as cold as it can get in the south).

Baths arent as shocking anymore. Sleeping a little more soundly, vivid dreams. Slightly irritable lately, seem to get exhausted 4-5 pm. Just stopped my 2pm coffee though. Had to skip my work out I was so lethargic. Still waiting for some good magic. Will give it a few months. Wife thinks between cold baths and no tv and bright lights after sunset i have gone off deep end....

Detox is going to vary depending on what you're working with. My Detox has been quite unique - but then I hit the hormones first - 2wks into CT I got a massive out break of acne on my face - I never get acne on my face - only cystic acne on my scalp. then when I started targeting the parasites and candida I've got rolling around... I've had everything from the shakes, nausea, vomiting and loose bowels...

I've also had different variations of sensitivity to cold...

I haven't been doing CT full-swing, just face-dunks and getting used to the cold. After my first day in the tub, I had the runs. Weird, though, I didn't feel sick at all. I also got a swollen gland under my armpit.

My detox has been interesting....i had extreme fatigue immediately after starting CT (mostly 1 hour baths at 54-60 degrees for an hour...along with or in place of spot CT-ing)...this fatigue lasted until last week (doc said it is detox or increased DHEA...got a big zit (mostly have clear skin which, along with paleo eating and the leptin rx has been looking even better than usual), and NOW, have the WORST period i have had in years....my breasts are so much bigger and swollen than normal, my cramps are horrible and my bleeding is heaver than normal....I am thinking it is my body dumping out excess estrogen...it's interesting bc in the last couple of years (with the onset of my hashis) my period has been extremely light, with very few if any side effects (besides cravings)....interesting to say the least...hope the next month is better!!

The first thing I noticed what that I was looking leaner. With BF% as low as yours I'd expect you to notice other positives like improved sleep, massive strenght-gains in the gym and possibly less apetite.

Couldn't agree more. I've experienced lots of positive effects, as well, including improved mood and energy, weightloss (1+ week in and I've lost about 5-6 pounds), and much better tolerance for cold. And, this morning, my brain is firing on all cylinders. I didn't realize I was experiencing any brain fog, but comparing my usual to thus far this morning, I think my fog is clearing.

I started the thread because I had seen on Dr. K's blog and the MDA monster thread that others were experiencing detox symptoms and I thought it might help me and others to share what we are going through, so (1) we understand this is normal adaptation as our bodies release all the badness in our fat cells, and (2) that none of us feel alone or like we are doing the wrong thing as we experience these die off symptoms.

I had a bit of acne, not feeling as refreshed in the morning, headaches, and nasal drainage. Also those cherry red spots on the skin on my arms from the increased Estrogen. Dr. K advised to eat mushrooms to block T converting to E2.

  19. I've been doing CT abt 2 weeks now, had been doing cold showers for a almost a year, but only 2-3 min after a warm shower. Now its cold for 5-6 min. 51 deg out of the tap, yikes. 35-45 baths, alternating between legs/feet up and torso down, and legs/feet in, sitting upright. Also I sit on large ice pad during 25 drive to work.

Die off: ungodly amount of mucus from sinuses and lungs. Oddly, no allergies, and this time of year I am usually sneezing my heqad off. GI upset/runs when I upped time on bath significantly from 20 to 30 and from 30 to 45. When I do the baths in the am or afternoon, I seem to warm up quicker. When baths are at night, I am huddled under the covers, feel like I cannot warm up. Beginning of this week, my skin was itchy, in an unusual, almost painful way.

Facial skin looks amazing. Pores are practically invisible, skin is tight, wrinkles around my eyes are greatly minimized. No more dark circles under eyes.

Belly skin, seems to be more droopy (?) like the fat underneath is more squishy

Glutes, what in god's name is happening here. I feel like my butt looks awful, like it is spongier, has more cellulite than ever. DH says both my belly and glutes are tighter, smaller so maybe what is happening is the fat that seems "hard" softens up a bit before it gets "melted off" (for lack of a better word) anyone else experience this?

I'm going to have DH take measurements, he took them 2 weeks ago.

  20. Along with some die-off effects, I've also experienced positive effects, but the scale sure doesn't want to budge! My clothes are getting looser.. just not sure why the scale won't move. I just want to ditch the last 15-20lbs. What's your secret Evo Mama? Back to the "cold tub" I guess.
