This reminds me off using chi in different ways in the internal martial arts. A strike could repel or draw in depending on what quality you imparted to the flow of chi with your visualization. A pushing hand strike could either throw an opponent or drop them where they stood . . . or draw them back towards you between strikes. Generally yang was a repelling force and yin was an attracting force. The easiest way to manifest the two qualities was to visualize the flow as either expanding or contracting. Each person used whatever visualization worked best for them but for me visualizing expanding or contracting cones worked best. Visualization of flow also made it possible to shape flow into penetrating, channeling or even tunneling applications as in the select break. Meditation was the key to effective visualisation, which in turn was the key to control of chi.

I wonder what happens when you bring each pole of a magnet to this man.

Is that why tai chi uses those circles? Holding the 'ball' and the bent knees? Magnetic flow?

My opinion - the visualisation that the name of the movement evokes is more important than the movement itself.

    off topic but..

Highly Ironic and short-sighted that the author/s of the Live visualizations of single isolated tubulin protein self-assembly via tunneling current: effect of electromagnetic pumping during spontaneous growth of microtubule article suggests to use wireless MHz pulsing to remotely treat diseases that involve protein misfolding without actually saying that it is perhaps the very same non native EMF's that are contributing to these diseases.
