Biological Depression - Serotonin Issues

    Hey Jack

Hope you can point me in the right direction.

Long story short: After years of seeing a psychologist/CBT therapist, he reckons I have brain chemistry issues surrounding Serotonin - either not enough being produced or re-uptake issues. He's recommending the SSRI option now (he's not a med pusher by any means) which I'm not keen on but would consider if my mindset worsens over time.

    My questions are:

    • are any blood tests good proxies for what's going on with my brain chemistry?
if there is a Serotonin issue at play, are there any specific lifestyle changes I should look at? I've been much more disciplined with my diet - 85% dark chocolate is about as decadent as I get :) and include oily fish (membrane permeability) at least twice a day.
As always, any insights would be really appreciated.

    Thanks

    Fergal
