According to my 23andme report, I possess the homozygous mutation for both the BCMO1 and BCMO1 R267S genes which can cause a reduced conversion of beta-carotene to retinol. I have already been diagnosed with early stage MD and from this post, I gather it could be causing all sorts of problems. Are people with this mutation more or less helpless?

No one is ever helpless. Just because you have a mutation doesn't mean it has expressed.

Wish I could comment more on your specific polymorphisms, but I don't have the background to do so.

I would guess that someone with those SNPs would get sick quickly on a vegetarian diet.
